On the back of high gold prices and a healthy sector, the agreement was announced at World Gold 2019 in Perth, the eighth conference in a series currently jointly organised by peak mining bodies from Australia, Canada and South Africa.
The newly signed agreement sees peak bodies from the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America join the current organisers to grow the event’s international reach.
The new organising committee comprises the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM/ICM), the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), The China Gold Association (CGA), and The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Inc. (SME).
World Gold 2019 Conference Chair Leon Lorenzen said the new agreement would add even more global expertise to the long-running conference series.
‘We welcome our new co-organisers and look forward to the continued growth of the World Gold conference over the next 12-year cycle,’ said Mr Lorenzen.
The five organisations agreed on terms and conditions and a new rotation hosting schedule. The last conference (ninth) in the current rotation will be organised by SAIMM and held in South Africa from 18-21 August 2021, with the new rotation schedule coming into effect for the 10th conference in China (2023), followed by USA (2025), Australia (2027), Canada (2029) and South Africa (2031).
